Many INGOs and local Ngos work in Trincomalee includeing UN organizations. In case of UN organisations,
UNHCR - responsible for coordination to temporary & permanent shelters with other INGOs and NGOs
UNICEF - responsible for supplying uniforms, books for affected Children, coordinate with relevant agencies to survey and providing some buildings through the SL Government.
UNDP - responsible for some development works.
WFP - responsible to issue food through the Government. Affected person get worth of Rs 175/= dry food per week from MPCS.
There are many other INGO - such as Mercy Corps, Interscope, GTZ, OXFAM, Save the children, Danish Refugee Council, Norwegian Refugee Council, ZOA,
AHEAD, etc working in Trinco and many of them are working in our target divisions. However, the activities we have planned are different than their activities. Most of these aid agencies are working on providing temporary shelters, water & sanitation facilities, providing schooling assistance, livelihoods, etc. Earlier they were providing emergency relief items such as food, tents, cooking utensils, medicines, water, etc.
